While driving through Kerala, we passed by the old Tata Tea Factory, just outside of Munnar.
Having a tour through the old factory was very interesting. Not just to learn about the process of making tea, but mainly because of the passion with which the workers would talk about their job.
As it turned out, when Tata decided to pull out of the tea business in the area, all the employees were given a share into the plantations – nowadays called the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Ltd.
They were devoted to what they were doing, for the simple reason that it was more than their job, it was their business.
On our way to Thekkady, we passed by these ladies working hard in the hot sun, picking tea leaves together. The pace at which they plucked and picked. Filling up their baskets at rapid speed.
