SLR – See Love Remember

Neue Wache

Die Neue Wache – The New Guardhouse.

We walked into this by accident.

It is a memorial for the German victims of war. The statue is called Mother with her Dead Son by Käthe Kollwitz.

Not the most cheerful photo. But I like the way the light from the rain-hole in the roof hits the wall in the background, giving the statue a sense of an aura.

The subtle shades of greyish white marble and pebble grey stones.

The statue is placed directly underneath the oculus, exposed to the elements. Sun, rain, cold – symbolising the suffering of the people during World War II.
